Truck Dispatch Broker Credit Check
Dispatcher AI - Updated August 2026
A load can look profitable on the board and still be a bad booking if the broker pays slowly, has weak credit or cannot be approved by the carrier's factoring company. Dispatch should check payment risk before the truck commits to the lane.
For owner-operators and small fleets, a broker credit check protects cash flow. The goal is not only to find freight, but to book freight that can be collected without weeks of follow-up.
Broker credit fields
| Field | Why it matters | Dispatch check |
|---|---|---|
| Broker authority | Inactive or mismatched authority creates compliance and payment risk. | Confirm broker MC number, legal name and active operating status before setup. |
| Factoring approval | If factoring will not buy the invoice, the carrier may wait on direct broker payment. | Check the broker against the factoring portal before accepting the load. |
| Days to pay | Slow pay changes the real economics of the load for small fleets. | Record standard terms, quick pay options and fees before signing the rate confirmation. |
| Payment history | Repeated deductions or late payments can erase margin after delivery. | Review prior loads, broker notes and documented disputes before booking again. |
| Required documents | Missing setup or invoice requirements can delay payment after delivery. | Confirm carrier packet, POD, receipts and invoice packet rules upfront. |
Dispatch workflow before booking
- Identify the broker: match the load-board posting to the broker legal entity and MC number.
- Check factoring status: confirm approval, credit limit and any special payment warnings.
- Compare terms to margin: treat slow pay or quick pay fees as part of the load economics.
- Store broker notes: save payment terms, setup requirements and contact history with the broker profile.
- Decide before ratecon: do not request a signed rate confirmation until broker risk is acceptable.
Operational rule: dispatch should reject loads that pass rate and lane checks but fail broker credit checks. A booked load is only good freight if the invoice can be collected.
How AI dispatch helps
